I don't really know how to introduce a blog. It seems very ... stilted ... to do that, when the reason I want the blog is to yammer about whatever topic is on my mind at the time. 'Introduce the blog' is not really a topic on my mind very often.
The title is a World of Warcraft reference - at least, it is to me. And it's my title so I guess it's required to conform to my will. Ha.
I usually play healers in MMOs. Because I enjoy healing. This flies in the face of the fact I can't watch operation shows on TLC without dry-heaving, but there you go.
I used to really enjoy wandering around zones in City of Heroes, healing people from a distance. Y'know, just Good Samaritan kind of stuff, when people were obviously in over their heads (happened a lot in CoH) or ran into the tail end of someone else's problem? The reactions were always interesting. Out of every 10 players I'd help, I'd get about 4 of people who would finish the fight they were about to lose, look around baffled, and then run away. 2 people would actually spot me in the sky above them ('cause I hover-healed) and say 'Thanks' or wave or something. 1 person would spot me in the sky, stare uncomfortably, and then run away. 2 people would aggro another group of monsters, apparently impressed with their own ability to spontaneously heal. And that last person would get mad.
I never really figured out the get mad person. I have had people say "Oh thanks, but I'm actually trying to die :D". Which I'm not sure about either, but at least they're polite. But some people get literally really pissed off when you try to help them. They must be fun at parties.
I'm used to the people getting pissed off thing, though, and that comes back to the title of this here blog. Healers in the party always take the most bullshit off the other players. It's pretty rare that someone's going to say "Hey, I screwed that up really badly sorry!" or "Man, I am constantly running ahead of the group and getting myself killed lol!"
No, no. The cry that goes up is always "Thx for shitty heals!" and "Where's the healz??????????" and so forth. Because, clearly, I can alter the cooldown time of spells to accommodate for the fact you wanted to run out of range of the rest of us and then attack 5 elite mobs at once. Or you decided to stand in the way of the big attack everyone knew was coming. Or you pulled over another group while we were still fighting the first one. Or you decided that your mage could probably tank half a dozen mobs 'since they were smaller'.
My bad.
My favorite, though, has been immortalized here.
"fuck u arnt you healing me???????"
"I -am-. You're standing in lava, so you keep taking damage."
"Oh. .... lol"
Please don't stand in the lava.
